What are the best dessert and beverage pairings?
This is going to be a recurring post as we brainstorm together, because this subject hasn't been traversed extremely well. I seem to have a knack for wanting information that doesn't exist. I am referring to both regular and adult beverages. I mean it's pretty hard to beat a glass of cold milk with some warm chocolate chip cookies, am I right? Various flavors of tea and... "gulp"... coffee, (there I said it- not a coffee fan, but a TOTAL tea snob) complement a wide variety of confections. Bailey's and ice cream is a drink and a dessert in itself. Does Bourbon go best with bread pudding, even though it has a bourbon sauce already? Not sure. Champagne and sorbet? I will say that cake and punch do NOT complement each other as well as many weddings, proms, showers, and other parties might suggest.
Now I know that there are some forward thinking restaurateurs that list companion drinks (i.e. ports) with their desserts. WELL DONE! But there is no standard mind of thought like there is with, say wine at dinner. Pretty standard to say white with fish and red with steak. Why not white with vanilla or red with chocolate? I don't know...but I intend on finding out!
Stay Sweet,
La Confectionista
